2018 is in full swing, and we’re seeing this year’s colors of the year in all styles of design. There are several companies that announce a color of the year, the shade that they believe will dominate the design world for the next 12 months. In fact, there are so many colors of the year that it can be hard to keep up. If you’re looking to brighten your home this year, then you might find inspiration in a few of them. Here are the best and brightest 2018 colors of the year:
Pantone: Ultra Violet
Pantone, a color management company, unveiled its selection in late 2017, and it’s an interesting choice. Ultra Violet is a deep purple, which Pantone says evokes “originality and ingenuity.” They say it is a distinctive, complex shade of purple that fascinates and intrigues.

Benjamin Moore: Caliente
Last year, Benjamin Moore said that deep purple was in with its pick Shadow. This year, it went bright and bold with Caliente. They describe it as a strong color, “radiant and full of energy.” It’s also described by the company as a signature color of modern architecture, so expect to see this shade used in contemporary and modern designs.
Sherwin Williams: Oceanside
Sherwin WIlliams’ pick is more subdued, while still a bright choice. Oceanside is a jewel-toned green, described as a harmonious balance of blue and green and old and new. This is a blue-green that works well as a statement color in a room, such as on an accent wall or front door.
How to Use These Colors
Trends are just that—trends! They come and go, so there’s no need to immediately incorporate them into your home. If you fall in love with one of these colors, they can easily be added through accents. Here are a few ways to add a touch of Oceanside, Caliente, or Ultra Violet:
- Throw pillows or blankets
- Accent decor, such as coffee-table books or small sculptures
- Art
- Small rugs
- Table settings
