DESIGN FROM AFAR®An Online Interior Design Service

Bon Brise Design can help design any home without visiting the space in person. We offer an exclusive online interior design service, Design from Afar®to provide integrated design for any home, whether it be a vacation home, or a new home in another city, or an apartment for a child in college or just starting their career.

As designers, we know our clients lead busy lives, and for many this service provides for their design needs without imposing on their schedule. Clients can also share the gift of design with a friend or family member. We make design simple and efficient, no matter where you are located.

We strive to make long distance design easy, incorporating technology such as Zoom or FaceTime, and we use the latest design software to render possible designs. All you have to do is take photos and give the measurements of a space and we will specify exactly which furnishings to purchase, what fabrics and finishes to use, and exactly how to arrange the room. We want you to be inspired every day by your space.

Step 1Getting to Know You

In order for us to get a better idea of your design goals, we will first set up a 30-minute consultation call. We will discuss what you currently like and do not like about your space, how you plan on using your space, your preferred style, what the rest of your home looks like, your hobbies and favorite colors, and budget. Once we come to an agreement on the scope of work for your space, we will ask you to sign a Letter of Agreement to finalize our project with you. This time is best utilized to get to know you, ensuring that your home reflects your personal and functional needs so we can create the perfectly designed space for your lifestyle.

Step 2Taking Measurements

Because Design from Afar® is a remote program, it does require a bit of work on your end. Not to worry: We will walk you through the process! To provide the best space planning and recommendations, we’ll need you to take measurements of your space and provide us with photos. We know there are lots of nooks and crannies in a home to consider when taking measurements and photos, so we will provide a step-by-step guide on how to properly measure and photograph your space. We can even set up a video chat so we can have a digital walkthrough of the space with you.

Step 3Initial Recommendations

Once we have the above information, we can start to conceptualize your new space by needs and style. We will create a presentation that will include general recommendations such as a paint palette, furniture placement and sizes, any needed fixtures, and potentially minor construction, such as moving or expanding a doorway or updating finishes such as tile or flooring.

Step 4Detailed Plan

This is our favorite part of the process! Once we have an agreement on the general selections, we will then provide you with a detailed presentation that includes floor plans and basic digital renderings to give you a glimpse of what your future space will look like. We will also include recommendations of product choices that can either be purchased online or from local retailers in your area. Whether you choose to complete everything at once or follow the plan slowly, we equip you with the information you need to create the room of your dreams.

Step 5Follow Up

We love getting to see how you’ve transformed your space! Our team will follow up within a month or two to see how the project is going, offer any further guidance, or provide a chance for you to show off your finished space. We love collecting photos of completed projects from our Design from Afar® clients and may even feature you on our website, blog, or social channels.

FREQUENTLYAsked Questions
How can you design a space without seeing the room?
Thanks to ever-improving digital tools, it’s very simple! Our Bon Brise team utilizes the measurements and specifications that you provide and combines them with the information we gather during our consultation to capture exactly what you’re looking for.
How do I explain my style to you?
During our consultation call, we will ask detailed questions to make sure we completely understand your vision for the space. We will ask you for references of things you like or don’t like, get a feel for where you like to shop, research retailers you admire, and even take a look at any vision boards or Houzz/Pinterest boards you may have created. Our goal is to personally tailor the space to your desires, so we make sure to include you in our design planning.
Will you take other rooms into consideration when designing the new space?
Of course! We feel it’s important to create not only a beautiful space but also a cohesive home. We will ask you to provide photos of connecting rooms to guarantee that the flow of design is considered. If you’re looking to spruce up the surrounding rooms in your home, we are happy to create add-ons to your package.
Do I need to purchase everything on my own?
Your design package includes suggestions for items you can purchase locally or online yourself. If you’d prefer to let us take charge of the ordering process, we will be happy to do it for you for a small additional charge.
Will you help me pick out fixtures and appliances?
Absolutely! If you are interested in replacing your more permanent fixtures like chandeliers, faucets, tile, flooring, and more, we can provide the perfect recommendations for you. Please keep in mind that we do not provide references to contractors in your area, so if you’re looking to install a new bathroom sink and add a backsplash in your kitchen, we can suggest materials to use, but you will need to be able to source your own contractor.
Will you work with my contractor?
To ensure that your project goes smoothly, we understand that larger projects require both contractors and designers to work in tandem. We will gladly work with your contractor through one of our upgraded packages.
