With the cooler months sending chilly breezes out by the second, your fireplace will quickly become one of your nearest and dearest friends. In most homes the fireplace and mantel are the focal points of the living room, so it’s important to let that space shine just as much as the rest of your home. Here are a few tips on how you can style your fireplace and mantel just in time for fall!

Styling Your Mantel

Go big!

Choose a large piece of art or a sculpture to be the focal point of your fireplace. Aim for the piece to be at least 2/3 of the size of the mantel itself to ensure that it is proportional to the space. If you don’t happen to own a single large piece of art, you can create the same effect by using multiple pieces of artwork.

Use a Mirror.

Mirrors are a tried and true way to decorate your mantel space. For this, it’s best to use a larger mirror as opposed to a smaller one. Mirrors that are close to or the size of your mantle work best for this.

Keep it simple.

Sometimes going the simpler route is better in the long run. If you have a large piece of artwork, or your fireplace has detailed elements, it’s better to keep it simple with a few candles or a lovely flower arrangement rather than to overwhelm the space with too many accents.
