Summer is nearing its end, but the weather is still nice and everyone is seeking to spend as much time outside as possible. But what about those of us who live in apartments or have very little outdoor space to work with? All hope is not lost. There are ways to make your small patio space appealing. It’s just about knowing how to make the best of what you have. Here are a few tips and tricks to turn a tiny, barren patio into a place you’ll want to sit and relax at the end of the day.

Create some privacy: With small patios, a major concern is often privacy. If you have the ability to, higher fencing can help this issue, but there are other ways to create the illusion of a secluded space. Utilize hanging and standing plants, for example, to enclose your space and create a lush feel. Or, create bench seating that goes up against a fence creating more privacy along with a seating nook.

Outdoor Storage Space: The key to keeping a small patio space from being cluttered is by creating lots of room to put things away when not in use. For example, make the bench space or seats double as storage: we love the Wyatt outdoor storage and dining bench topped with a cushion by Arhaus. You can also install wall shelves with the dual purpose of added space and décor.

The finishing touches: So you may not be able to have your dream waterfall, or the big outdoor fireplace you always wanted, but you can have downscaled versions. Look for a small fire pit, string lighting, outdoors pillows, candles; whatever will help create the ambiance of a grand outdoors space.

Most importantly, make your space all about you! Focus on how you use your outdoor space most and your personal style.
