We recently designed a custom desk for a client on the lakefront, working with our good friends at Bo Allen Furniture. The space was small, but the need for functionality was big! Our client did have a desk in this space, but it no longer worked well for her. We had a lot of fun designing every nook and cranny to meet her needs.

Features of the new, custom piece:

  • Because it was in her kitchen, we wanted it to look like the cabinetry in the rest of the room. We mimicked the hardware for the pulls, painstakingly matched the stain and species of the wood, and even re-used the granite top of the former desk, using it as an inset in the top of the new desk.
  • We used hidden hardware that was installed on the bottom of the drawers rather than the traditional side-mounted hardware, thus maximizing interior space of the drawers.
  • We designed a pull-out printer drawer that enables the printer to remain plugged in so that it’s always ready for use, but can be hidden from sight when not in use.
  • We made sure one side of the desk was wide enough to accommodate a file drawer.

Our client was delighted with the desk, and the organization it affords her. Keep us in mind next time you need a specialty piece of furniture that has to be just so… We’ll make it work perfectly just for you!
