A sofa is unquestionably one of the most important pieces of furniture purchased for a home. Not only is it likely to be one of the more expensive purchases, but also a prominent element that sees daily use. So where do you begin? Here are a few tips to help find that picture-perfect sofa:
- Size
This may be the most obvious deciding factor in choosing a couch, but all the same, the most important. Measure the space for the sofa prior to shopping. Don’t let yourself find the perfect couch only to discover it won’t fit. Also, think about space in relation to other furniture: will there be chairs or a coffee table? Make sure the size of the couch you choose will fit with everything else. - Shape
Now that you’ve determined the size you want, think about the shape. A big, square sectional will work well in a larger, open space. A couple of rounded loveseats will work well in a more intimate space. Again, consider the other furniture you already have and love. - Style
Your furniture should work together to reflect your personal décor style. Is your taste more modern and minimalistic? Go for a clean, neutral fabric or leather. Are you more classic? A nice, upholstered couch in a charming print fabric might be the right choice. - Color
Another important elements in tying together a room is coordinating colors properly. There has to be a good balance. What colors are the other pieces of furniture that will be in the room? If there are a lot of colorful pieces, consider a more neutral couch. Or, alternatively, choose a statement couch in a bright color and then accessorize with neutral pieces.
