Deciding on what gifts to give the people in your life can be such a stressful process. In my opinion, the difficulty stems from trying to walk the fine line between gifts that are too impersonal, and gifting things people would rather choose for themselves. When it comes to giving home décor gifts, this can become even trickier, as people’s taste in designing their home is so subjective. In order to give gifts that are special, but not too intimate, take a look at some of the things I would love to both give and receive this holiday season:
Our favorite candles
There’s no better time to fill your home with ambient candles than the holidays, when everyone is gathered indoors. I love to give my clients custom-made unscented candles, which are healthier for you than burning the artificially scented variety. Unscented candles can come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, and don’t pose any health threats!
Don’t forget the candleholders either. A beautiful candlestick or holder can add so much to a room! I particularly love this one from Design Within Reach; it’s so festive but also has a life past the winter months.
Kitchen accessories
During this time of the year, people do much more entertaining than usual. A gift that will add some style to his or her home for a gathering, or to enjoy after everyone’s gone, is more unique and memorable than the standard bottle of wine. We love the idea of gifting personalized or quirky mugs, such as these ones that can be found through Anthropologie. Or perhaps a gorgeous tea set!
You can never go wrong with a designer tray, either. I love this one from the Jean Cocteau collection by Roche Bobois, Paris. It’s distinctive and modern, without being too outrageous that it might not fit in with other décor.
Coasters
With so many guests in your home, coasters can be your best friends when it comes to maintaining your beloved home surfaces. But they don’t have to be purely functional; they can also add their own charm and aesthetic appeal to your holiday gatherings. Recently, we’ve been eyeing these natural and gold agate coasters from Jonathan Adler as a possible gift (or maybe just for ourselves).
Toiletries
Nobody can ever have enough toiletries! In particular, I know a lovely soap or lotion is a gift I can always appreciate. Around the holidays, I always make sure to stock my guest bathroom with lots of decorative soap and hand lotion for my visitors to enjoy. For a more rustic chic look, I love this cold-processed Argan oil soap by Maison Midi. For a more traditional and formal gift, consider this Williams Sonoma personalized soap set. When it comes to lotions, I’m a fan of all the scented lotions offered by London-based Molton Brown.
Hopefully these ideas will help you become everyone’s favorite gifter this holiday season! What are some of your go-tos for décor gifts? Let us know in the comments!
