No matter how warm your home is during the winter, there’s nothing quite like bundling up with soft, cozy fabrics. The right kind of fabrics not only keep you warm, but they can transform your home’s atmosphere from summer to winter. From the curtains to the rug, here are a few tips that will help make your home winter-ready:

Window Treatments

Have you ever noticed how cold it is next to your windows during the winter? They are a primary source for letting cold air into your home. To warm up your home during the day, leave your blinds and curtains open and let the sun in. At night, draw the curtain and close the blinds. It’s also time to reevaluate your choice of fabric for curtains. If you don’t already have thermal-insulated curtains, make the switch! They will trap heat and prevent cold drafts from spreading across your home.

Rugs

Not only are rugs great for anchoring your space and adding color, they also help keep your room warm. When looking for a warm rug, think of its warmth the same way you do for clothing. For the best heat retention, look for large, wool rugs.

Bedding

This winter, don’t wake up in the middle of the night shivering. You can always pile on more blankets, but it’s best to choose warm sheets as well. We typically recommend high-quality cotton sheets, but cold winters sometimes call for warmer fabrics. Try out linen or flannel, both of which are comfortable and adjust to body temperature well. Once you’ve swapped your sheets, add a down comforter and an extra quilt or throw blanket.
