In most laundry rooms, there simply isn’t space for a table. However, there is room for counter space. Put a countertop above your washer and dryer to provide ample workspace for folding and sorting clothes.
Always think about having pull-out shelves or, better yet, easy-open drawers, to hold your laundry supplies. Often, putting these supplies in cabinets over the washer/dryer just makes it difficult to reach for these every-day items. Better to put them in a drawer for easy access.
We often need to iron our clothes (or maybe you like to iron your pillow cases. But finding space for an ironing board and supplies is difficult. These aren’t the prettiest things to look at, so it’s best to keep them under wraps, although easy to use. Consider a drop-down ironing board, or even one that folds out from a drawer, and use a nearby cabinet for the iron, starch, and distilled water.
If you hang-dry your clothes, find a hidden place for your drying rack. Make sure it’s out of the way when you aren’t using it. This will make it easier to use the space you do have and move around. You can try a wall-mounted drying rack, or a pull-out valet bar if space is really tight.
A laundry room typically serves are more than just a space for cleaning clothes. You will most likely use it as an extended pantry for dry goods and cleaning supplies as well. To increase your storage space for rarely-used items, go vertical! Extend cabinetry up the wall, or use a pull-out pantry for easy access, and keep a step stool nearby.
