The Color of the Year is always a much-anticipated announcement in the design community. We look to the research done by thought leaders such as Pantone Color Institute, Sherwin Williams, and Benjamin Moore to tell us what’s trending around the world in the color arena.
Last year, Benjamin Moore chose Shadow, a deep, saturated purple, as their color of the year. Interestingly, this passion for purple is still a thing! For 2018, the Pantone color of the year is Ultra Violet, a commanding, bold purple.
We are pleased that we are on trend, having just completed a master bedroom and bath featuring shades of purple, including those deeper, regal shades referenced in the colors of the year. As with any color, how it is used can completely change the tenor of a room. Color can become the predominant feature in a room, commanding attention by its very presence. Or, it can be used in a more restrained way, to enhance and enliven without taking over. We chose the subtle route and mixed our purples with greys, to create a sophisticated, soothing space.
If you want to make a color trend your own, embrace it by painting a wall, changing a rug, or adding throws and pillows to your décor. As always, give us a call if we can be of assistance in incorporating purples, or any other favorite color, into your home.
