In Chicago, many homes have vintage features that make them one of a kind. In one of our recent projects, the homeowners wanted to update their home to match their modern city lifestyles while maintaining the integrity of the home and the details that made it a meaningful place. In this project, which we call the Updated Vintage City Home, we brought together everything a modern, working couple needs in a home with the refinement of this vintage abode. Take a look inside:
When you walk into the home, you’re greeted by a cozy-but-elegant living room. The traditional furniture pieces and rug are balanced by a light palette and contemporary art adorning the fireplace.
The couple, who love to entertain, needed a dining space (top) that was intimate for their small gatherings. This dining room features many of the vintage elements they loved without weighing down the space. The breakfast nook (bottom) is perfect for sipping a morning cup of coffee with the view into the backyard.
In the kitchen, the abundance of storage cleared the way for decluttered countertops. The kitchen island also serves as a bar and buffet when entertaining family and friends.
Pet-friendly fabrics were a must for these dog lovers. The upholstery in this casual sitting area will stand up to pet stains, wine, and the test of time.
The guest room offered an opportunity to put a vintage writing desk to use. The home is tied together through the use of a warm, neutral color palette.
