I know it may seem contradictory, especially to our friends in the South, but I enjoy winter! It’s often serenely beautiful, as I noted the other day while watching a cardinal nibbling the winterberries in my outdoor arrangement.Chicago in January somehow seems to operate at a slower pace. There’s more time to linger, whether it’s over a cup of coffee with a colleague, in front of the fireplace or after a lunch with friends. I recently met two girlfriends at Terzo Piano in the Art Institute (taking advantage of Restaurant Week!) and, after indulging in a delicious meal, we feasted our eyes on amazing artwork. We took our time walking through the new exhibit in the Modern Wing featuring the 42 pieces of artwork gifted to the museum last spring. We discovered artists we hadn’t known and marveled at iconic works by Warhol, Lichtenstein, Pollock, and one of my favorites, Jasper Johns.
It is important to have the right outerwear to enjoy this season, but once you have that sorted out, there’s almost nothing better than a peaceful walk in the snow (although perhaps not as much snow as our friends on the east coast just had), or an afternoon at one of our many fabulous museums.
Take the time to embrace the beauty that winter brings!
