Entertaining for an evening is daunting enough for some hosts—but overnight guests? Hosting family and friends overnight can be even more stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. As designers, we’ve noticed a few tricks over the years that help every host prepare for guests and create a more comfortable stay. If you follow our advice, your guests may never want to leave!
Evaluate your guest’s experience.
Your guests don’t expect a five-star hotel experience, but everyone prefers to be comfortable. There are a few things you can check on to make your guest bedroom more comfortable. First, is the room too hot or too cold? Adjust the temperature if needed. Next, evaluate if there is too much ambient noise in the room, such as creaks from the floors. Consider adding a fan or white-noise machine to drown out these sounds.
Prep the bathroom.
A well-stocked bathroom a simple way to please your guests. Some may find it awkward to ask for supplies. Place a fresh stack of towels on the bed or the counter of the designated guest bathroom, so there’s no confusion about where to find them. Stock extra toilet paper, feminine products, and enough hand soap for their stay.
Clear space for luggage.
Provide a place for your guests to set their luggage, especially if there is no dresser or closet space available. A luggage rack allows them to unpack easily, without using the bed or other furniture to unpack at waist-level. An over-the-door hook can provide space to hang clothes, and a small steamer is also a plus!
Don’t sweat it!
Our final tip is simple. Don’t stress! Your guests will appreciate you opening up your home to them, and what’s most important is that you spend time together and create new memories.
Personal Touches
Consider adding fresh flowers or greenery, a throw blanket for napping, water glasses on coasters at bedside, and even cozy terry robes in the closet. The possibilities are endless!
