Paint has endless decorating possibilities and is an easy way to transform a room. From stenciling to color blocking, to striping.

Here are five of the ways we use paint to spice up a space!

  1. Anchor the island.

The latest kitchen trend is easy to spot: white cabinets, white marble countertops and more white accents. If you’ve adopted this for your own kitchen, there’s still a simple way to add color and warmth back into your space. Painting your kitchen island or peninsula a contrasting color, such as navy blue on white, can add the focal point of color that your kitchen needs. For kitchens that already have a bit of color, try painting in a shade in the same color spectrum as your current palette.

  1. Use bold color blocking.

You can create a unique look by painting specific areas of a room in a bold color.  For example, you can paint one wall, or an alcove, or the backs of bookcases in a color that coordinates with fabric, rugs or artwork in the room. This is a great way to spice up more subdued spaces, such as small offices or powder rooms.

  1. Use paint in unexpected places.

Of course painting your front door can give your home new curb appeal, but have you thought about painting your interior doors? Take a new approach in your design by choosing shades from accents around the room. Or add pizzazz to a wood floor by adding a pattern, such as stripes or diamonds. We particularly love these looks in bedrooms and bathrooms!

  1. Accentuate the ceiling

If you’re a fan of accent walls, you can take it to the next level by painting your ceiling. In the living room, a light neutral tone can give a freshness that pulls the room together. In bedrooms, a dark and moody hue can take the space from drab to relaxing. In a powder room that is taller than it is wide, a dark ceiling can add just the right touch of drama.

  1. Try out stencils.

You can add small touches around your home using paint and stencils. This is an area where you can have a little extra fun and express your personality through patterns and contrasting colors. Try using patterned stencils on walls, ceilings or floors in children’s rooms, the laundry space or on the stairs to the basement family room.
