As I drive to client’s homes in the fall, the mistake I see most often before even setting foot into a home is neglected front porches! The front porch gives guests their first impression of your home and can be easily refreshed for fall to be warm and inviting. Set aside a Sunday afternoon to makeover your front porch with these few simple steps:
Natural décor
Bring a little pumpkin spice to your front steps! Find natural décor like gourds, pumpkins and natural wreaths to breath life back into the chilly front steps of your home.
Paint the front door
Repainting the entire exterior of a home is an ambitious endeavor, but repainting the front door can be accomplished in a day. Try a new, warm fall color like brick red or evergreen. This will completely change the look and feel of your curbside appeal!
Stay tidy
Fall leaves and muddy shoes can mask what is a lovely front porch. Remember to add sweeping away fall leaves and tidying up the space to your weekly to-do list. Make the décor the focus of your porch – not the mess!
Refresh lighting
If your outdoor lighting isn’t weather-proof it may be time to look into replacing worn pieces. However, many lighting fixtures simply need a good cleaning. Look into lanterns for inviting warm light to guide guests to your home and double-check that all light bulbs are still in working condition.
Fall is such a wonderful time of year for décor! There are so many natural design elements you can add for simple updates to the home. The next time you think your front porch needs a quick makeover, try one (or all!) of these tips.
